Attendees created handmade community banners through textile crafts, art and creativity, sharing stories, memories, making new connections and celebrating community in a relaxed and welcoming space.

Attendees learned more about The Healing Arts Birmingham Neighbourhood programme, which provided grants to support a diverse range of community-led projects taking place across the city during Healing Arts Birmingham.

The symposium is being shaped around the values of the forest, thinking about how these might be embodied in an event of this nature. We are bringing together different disciplines to exchange knowledge and skills, share a community meal, and create space for collective discussion.

This new body of work has been created by Birmingham based photographer, Maria Reaney. To create the project she worked with six young people from across the city and wider West Midlands region to explore the impact of the cost of living crisis, government policy and living with a disability.
