Healing Arts Birmingham: Neighbourhood programme

Download the Full Overview

As part of Healing Arts Birmingham, over 60 community organisations, artists, and cultural groups have received small grants to deliver creative health activities across the city.

The Healing Arts Birmingham Creative Health Neighbourhood programme was designed as part of the Creative Public Health Programme by Birmingham City Council Public Health to support local organisations to explore the connection between arts, culture, heritage and health through activities that were shaped by and for their communities. From music, dance, storytelling and visual arts to gardening, craft, photography and creative technology, the programme demonstrates the many ways creativity can support wellbeing, reduce isolation, strengthen community connections and create opportunities for reflection, expression and joy.

Creative Health Community Grants Programme

Investing in Arts & Health

The Healing Arts Birmingham Community Grants Programme supports a diverse range of community-led projects taking place across the city during Healing Arts Birmingham.

Each funded activity explores the relationship between creativity and wellbeing in different ways. Some projects focus on music, dance and movement; others use storytelling, visual arts, heritage, nature, craft, performance or digital technologies. Together, they create opportunities for people to connect with others, celebrate culture and identity, explore personal experiences, learn new skills, and support their health and wellbeing through creative participation.

The programme highlights the strength of Birmingham's community organisations and demonstrates how local investment in arts and health can create meaningful opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to take part in creative activity close to home.

The grants recognise that some of the most powerful health and wellbeing activity happens within neighbourhoods, community spaces and trusted local organisations. By investing directly in Birmingham's communities, Healing Arts Birmingham is helping to showcase the role that arts and culture can play in creating healthier, more connected and more resilient communities.

Together, these projects form a city-wide celebration of creativity as a vital part of health and wellbeing.
