Mothership Exhibition: Contemporary Art, Children's Activities & Wellbeing Space

Wednesday 24th - Saturday 27th June 2026 Stryx Play Gallery Cafe, 90 Vyse Street. Birmingham, Jewellery Quarter, B186JZ

Mothership was a residency and exhibition programme supporting mother-artists through creative development, peer support and family-inclusive approaches to artistic practice.

The exhibition presented new work by artists navigating motherhood alongside their creative careers, exploring themes of care, identity, resilience, belonging and community. By creating space for artists with caring responsibilities, Mothership addressed barriers to cultural participation and promoted more equitable opportunities within the arts.

Visitors of all ages were welcome. The gallery provided family-friendly resources including play mats for children, yoga mats for relaxation and movement, and Mini Stryx creative sessions took place on Fridays, encouraging intergenerational engagement with contemporary art.

Through creativity, connection and shared experiences, Mothership demonstrated how the arts can support wellbeing, reduce isolation and strengthen communities.
