Art of the Mind: Visualising Brain Health

Monday 22nd & Tuesday 23rd June Aston Students Union building

Join Art at the Heart CIC at Aston University during Healing Arts Birmingham week, to create art inspired by Aston University's cutting-edge research into the neuroscience behind social interaction. You don't need any science background; instead, you’ll become a co-creator and artist by contributing to two large-scale participatory artworks and experience the joy of creating alongside others.

This is a practice that has been extensively explored by Art at the Heart and offers additional health and wellbeing benefits to solo art making. This project builds on past successful collaborations between Art at the Heart CIC and Aston Institute of Health and Neurodevelopment (IHN), resulting in large-scale public artworks. Two activities are being led by Art at the Heart CIC, both of which are suitable for all ages:

1. Wave & Pulse Brain Art: Expressing Joy, Excitement and Harmony through Colour and Line

Enjoy using bright paints to create waves and pulses inspired by how the brain works during social interactions. This fun, collaborative 2D activity is a great way for all ages to connect with others, express creativity, and contribute to a vibrant, communal artwork that celebrates wellbeing. Immerse yourself in colour and rhythmic lines and find your state of 'flow'.

2. The Brain Dome: Ink Pumping Adventure

Explore a giant 3D art installation inspired by the human brain. Audiences will pump colourful ink through a network of tubing, representing active neural pathways. It is a fantastic, hands-on activity where you can physically contribute to a massive community sculpture and playfully explore how connectivity works inside the brain. You’ll help us make brain science arty!
